The factors that play a role on the social worlds are: readers or the audience, technology, media industry, and media message or product. Since our media has become a mobile concept, our four broad categories can help explain how this came to be. Technology advances every single day, but you only see a significant change annually when new products are released onto the market. Cell phones are a prime example of annual advancement. Every year, we see and hear about a new iPhone that released into the market. Since our technology advances, this means that the media industry finds new mediums to publicize information such as creating applications and mobile friendly websites. Information that can be found through the media industry or our cell phones, gives people news such as an upcoming snow storm, which can be taken as a threat or complete bogus. Information that is delivered to us may be beneficial for our everyday lives or could be entertaining to read; this entirely depends on the audience and how they live their lives. Since television watching is now a mobile activity, our mass media has formally changed with this idea. Stephen Groening exemplifies the relationships between institution and the individual by expanding on the idea of “mobile privatization”. The concept of mobile privatization refers to the same appeal of ‘comfort’ that you would receive while at home, but experiencing this comfort through your cell phone, while in a mobile environment (bus, office, park). Groening outwardly admits in his essay that he is concerned with how our society is obsessed with mobility and privacy, which may not entirely be negative. What is concerning, is the fact that individuals feel the need to carry their mobile devices with them at all times, so that they are ‘connected’ with the world, but refuse to socialize during real life situations.
