This legendary man was named Walter Elias Disney. Walt Disney was born to Flora and Elias Disney on December 5, 1901 in Chicago. At the time, he had three older brothers, Roy, Raymond, and Herbert. Soon after Walt was born, poor immigrants began to move into Disney’s neighborhood, which caused the Disney family to move to a remote farm in Missouri. Walt was inspired by the Tivoli Gardens in Denmark because it was an amusement park with phenomenal rides, good quality food, and had an affordable admission price. Because Walt didn’t have enough money to build the amusement park, he borrowed $100,000 against his life insurance to begin Walt Disney, Incorporated (14). This company consisted of a team who was to work with Walt in designing his dream amusement park. Since Walt and Roy didn’t have the millions of dollars needed to build the park, Roy traveled to New York and made a deal with the TV network, ABC, to show a one-hour weekly series. The company also loaned Disney more than $4million to build the park (15). In October of 1954, the television show called Disneyland premiered. Although Walt and Roy ran into several problems building Disneyland, opening day eventually came on July 17, 1955. The opening day was disastrous because water pressure was low, some rides broke down, and the cement was still soft in some places. Fortunately, Disney was able to fix this problem fairly quick, and the number of visitors increased each day
