The selling of violent video games to minors, is it free speech? This is a question that has been thrown around quite a bit. In this, we will look at this question through the minds of two philosophers John Locke and Edmund Burke. John Locke, who believes the government should has a very little role in society and people are rationale enough to govern themselves. We also have Edmund Burke, who believes that government should play a huge role in society and govern just about everything as people are not reasonable enough on their own. Violent video games are protected under the first amendment. Violent videos games should be allowed to be sold to minors under the age of 18, as people are rational enough to understand what is right and wrong. …show more content…
Violent video games has a potential to cause users to think a lot more aggressively than normal. One thing that can result from violent video games is that the child could be desensitized towards graphic material. Also, the child might become more argumentative and disrespectful. Playing violent video games can have the effect of seeing the world differently. As in, a more violent world that is not very safe. There is some research that shows that minors are slowly becoming desensitized by violent video games. Also, there some negative effects in adolescent brain development that happen with the violent games. Minors should not be able to purchase violent video games under the age of 18. Children should not be growing up with violence nor playing violent games. The freedom of speech does not apply to minors under 18 without having to go through the parents and gaining their consent first. This law that is supposed to be protecting children from very graphic materials. The decision made to allow children under 18 to purchase violent games put the children at risk of seeing this violence and possibly imitating
