The Most Commonly Used Drug in College There are many types of drugs in the world, such as, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, LSD, tobacco, alcohol and many more. In a college campus, alcohol is the most commonly used drug (Wechsler, 73). The most problems faced by American students in college are heavy episodic drinking, and is a very serious problem in most, if not all cases (O’Malley 73). Some people do not consider alcohol and tobacco drugs but they most certainly are. In my opinion, if anything is addictive and harmful to your body I do in fact consider it a drug. Before any of my research, I would’ve guessed that marijuana would be the most commonly used drug among college students, in fact I was wrong. Alcohol is and always will be a huge problem and play a huge role in college students. Alcohol can cause many risky behaviors and negative consequences on anyone, but more importantly college students. Many deaths can occur, or can get you in serious issues with the police as well. Getting an underage in college can harm you in the future from getting your degree or possibly getting into your major. I know as a Pre-Athletic Training major if I got an underage it would be nearly impossible to find a job, especially because I would be working in a school setting. Some of my fellow colleagues are education majors, and if they have an underage or get in trouble with the police or law enforcement they will not be accepted as a teacher. You will be able to graduate college with your degree, but will not be able to find a job that will accept you. That means you have wasted thousands of dollars and four or more years of your life to just ruin it by one night of you being at a party or having a sip or drink of
