Because Jay was associated with the crime, but never did any time in prison. It is obvious that he made a deal with someone, that if he told the truth, his version of the truth, he would not get any time in prison. For Adnan, Gutierrez was supposed to ask for a plea deal but never did. Because of what Gutierrez did, Adnan ended up life in prison. That is what Lynch was saying. Adnan believes he was innocent so he ended up not asking for a plea bargain till later in his the case, even though he never got one, no one will ever admit guilt unless they know they are guilty. They control what happens to the defendant. If a prosecutor is able to control what happens to the defendant then the prosecutor has too much power. According to Angela Davis article, “Unchecked power in the hand of prosecutors is as much a threat to our democracy as it is with any government official, if not more.” Davis is basically saying not checking a prosecutor’s act is as bad as if we do not check our government acts. The prosecutor could be doing an act of passion towards the defendant. But the prosecutor never gets questions for the decision of the charges towards the defendant so no one ever knows. Prosecutors have too much power compare to the defendant. When a prosecutor loses a case nothing really happens to them, but if a defendant loses they get charges press on.
