The two forms of apprehensive communication are state and trait. State, is only initiated on occasions where anxiety or fear is only temporary. Trait, is a reoccurring situation where fear and/ or anxiety is always present. It is viewed as a general pattern along a continuum such that one can have low, moderate, or high fear or anxiety orientation across communication contexts (McCroskey, 2009). For example, someone with high trait CA may be less assertive, free, and clear when communicating, and may also feel less powerful, confident, and brave during interactions (Hopf & Colby, 1992; Jung, 2013). Some strategies to over come CA, initially one needs to understand, and develop confidence. By distinguishing traits for improvements and strengths, through a self test; identifies one's level of communication apprehension. It covers a broad questionnaire that is added on different forms of CA; high or low communication formed around categories of dyadic, group, meeting or public speaking apprehension. 3. Discuss the role of communication in being a professional.
The Center for Professional Excellence (CPE), which conducts an annual survey on professionalism in the workplace, reported in 2012 that HR professionals and managers designate a number of components of professionalism, including interpersonal skills, communication skills, appearance, time management, knowledge, confidence, ethics, and productivity.
