Final Field Project

For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge. I also stressed that it is important that we stay on topic and focus on the assignment because there is a great possibility we will stray away from the interview. I explained the overall agenda and how it was going to be set up. We were going to split the interview up into four-day-sessions with a specified topic for each interview. I recorded the information by using my computer. I figured this would be the best method because I could

My strengths are that I am able to naturally establish rapport. I try to connect with my interviewees and establish an open setting for honest communication. I also implement effective nonverbal communication and listening skills. I make certain that my body language shows I am actively listening and interested in what they’re saying. Also, I repeat what they say and am able to probe on the spot. A weakness of mine is when I get nervous, I tend to confuse my words and not clearly state my meaning. Also, I start speaking faster than normal, also conveying an unclear message. In the future, I hope to work on my weaknesses, and not allow nervousness to alter the credibility of my message. I may be confident in what I am saying, but it does not show if my words are jumbled or I am speaking too

In this section, we will identify the three interview questions that show candidates’ maturity and high standards, their acquired skills and abilities, and their motivation and desire to flourish. shows the individual we are confident, calm, genuine, understanding, and respectful. If we accomplish this we can gain the trust of the client. We also need to admit to your own mistakes if necessary. Just because you are a great “talker” does not mean you will automatically be good at verbal de-escalation. On the other hand I have worked with plenty of people who did not talk much at all, but were great at verbal de-escalation.…

The interview with Mr. Randy Taylor, a Ph. D student in the Social, Cognitive, and Neuroscience area as well as Intro to Psychology professor, was interesting because he is a relatively newer professor and somewhat closer to his students as compared to other professors. His interview involved questions about his interest in psychology, as well as the path he intends to take as a professor, as well as the struggles that he will face. Equally importantly, I asked him regarding the struggles with working in a research environment, which is an environment that I hope to some day work in. When/Why did you become interested in studying Psychology?…

I believe that strong communication skills can get you anything and anywhere. Communication is how we learn new things about one another. The interview had somewhat of a casual feel, despite the fact that the discussion was meant to represent a non-casual issue being the employee-performance. The interview took place via phone call and not in person. From one standpoint, this might improve the relationship with the employee or hindered it. Reflecting on Gabriel, Frantz, Levy, and Hilliard (2014) drew attention to an over-site on my role as a manager in that the environment might best suit the employee to foster better a positive…

For my human sexuality class, I was to conduct a sexual interview with an individual focusing on sexuality. We were to ask questions focusing on the individual’s attitudes and feelings towards sexuality and any misconceptions they may have held about sexuality. This activity also allowed the interviewer to become aware of their own feelings and attitudes about sexuality during the interview. I intentionally wanted to conduct this interview with a male, because asking questions around sexuality with males is an issue I am still learning to become comfortable with. Working as a family based therapist I have to ask questions surrounded around sexual activity, sexual trauma, and being to provide parents and adolescent with resources about sexual education.…

Mock Interview Reflection The mock interview was closely related to the topics covered in the readings and in class. Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique. Strengths and Effectiveness When reflecting on my performance, I was able to express to the client I was fully engaged in our conversation by intentionally implementing a variety of reflection strategies.…
