Was entering World War II a wise decision? World War II was a war in Europe that lasted from 1939-1945, it began with the Nazi’s who killed and imprisoned people in Europe. There were two sides in World War II, the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, Japan), and the Allies (United States, Great Britain, China, Soviet Union). Many Americans debated whether they should enter the war or not get involved. Two sides evolved, the Isolationists, who thought that we should not enter the war and the interventionists, who thought that we should enter the war. The United States was right in entering World War II.
One reason why the United States should have gotten involved in World War II is to give people who are imprisoned their freedoms. In Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s speech he made a good point about this, “In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms” (The State of the Union Address to Congress, 1941). Roosevelt is pointing out that what they are fighting for is the four essential human freedoms, these freedoms are the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of religion, to have economic understandings, and the freedom from fear. In Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s speech he speaks about a problem, “I find it, unhappily, necessary to report that the future and the safety of our country and of our democracy are overwhelmingly involved in events far beyond our border” (The State of the Union Address to Congress, 1941). Roosevelt is saying that the safety of the country and democracy is at risk because if the Nazis win the war then they can come attack our country and make it into a dictatorship. This would not be a good situation for the United States. Therefore, need to help fight in the war, or else we will put our country's future at risk of those
