Express yourself
Dress appropriate to the occasion, maintain eye contact, and most important, put some life in your voice. If you are enthusiastic about a new initiative or program, the audience should feel it. In Erik Palmer’s (2015) article, he states, “If an audience doesn’t hear the passion in your voice, they won’t care about the message.” Effective oral communication requires emotion and it is not easily mastered in the beginning, but with practice, the emotion and passion will develop.

5. He’s misstra know-it-all
Whether the organization is suit and tie or jeans and hoodies, communication styles vary among generations and the differences can create tension (Goudreau, 2013). Younger employees may prefer the efficiency of casual emails that read like texting while older employees value correspondence that is more formal. One way to control both internal and external communications is to set clear criteria of expectations (Goudreau, 2013).
