When looking into promoting effective communication, the following needs to be taken into account
• Individual needs - everyone is different and everyone learns/expresses themselves in an individual way
• environment - each situation requires a different environment. should something sensitive need to be discussed, then you would not want to do this is a busy open area.
• Proximity - depending on what the discussion and the individual needs. this would dictate what proximity would be required. 3.2 Identify barriers to effective communication
Possible barriers are:
• information - difficulty expressing themselves verbally, written form or face to face.
• Encoding - There may be situations where an inappropriate form of communication is used. This can be wanting to discuss something and putting it through as a complaint. Body language not showing the correct feeling for the person. Although they may seem call and calm on the outside, the person maybe very upset by the situation.
• Transfer - when discussing a situation, background noise can be rather distracting and can lead to a miss in what was said. Post/emails not being received. Verbal messages being distorted
• Decoding - There can times when it is hard for adults and children alike to decode a situation and respond accordingly. Where this be a language barrier and they are unable to interpret what is being said. Having the emotional development to understand the situation.
