Because they’re desperate to find answers they become gullible and their willing to believe anything. For example, when the FBI officers brought in a fortune teller by the name of “Stupendous Yappi” to help on a lead on finding a serial killer. Stupendous Yappi was naming broad tips that were almost believable by the officers. For an example, Yappi went on to giving tips like, “He looks like... A white man with facial hair. Or not. But he has... yes! A tattoo! Somewhere on his body. Maybe the tattoo has the facial hair. I think. Hmmm! I see him here! Forcing himself, yes. On the girl. But, he cannot perform... so he's taking out his rage. It's gone. I lost the vision. Someone is blocking me. I am picking up negative energy. As the FBI officers were already desperate on finding leads on the serial killer on solving the case the fortune teller giving them broad answers showed that they were gullible. The fortune teller giving them answers gave them a sense of security that all hope was not lost on the case. This can be applied to real life as people who are desperate are lead to be gullible on having control over their lives. The X Files episode allowed the audience to see how people become curious, desperate, and gullible when not having control over their future. Individuals become curious when not having control over their lives and seek help to find unanswered questions about their future. When one doesn’t have the sense of control, the episode showed that one becomes desperate and takes desperate measures such as (fortunetellers, mediums, etc.) to help them get a glimpse of their “future”. Finally, the episode also shined a light for the people who are gullible on listening to any segment of information that deals with an aspect of their future. Their gullibility sends them to hopeless measures and leave them naïve in situations that pertain to the need for control over their lives. Surprising to see how people behave in reaction to the perception that one doesn’t have total dominance over their life. This goes to show that people need to learn how to accept their fate and accept the reality that the future can’t be
