In assessing a performance, I approached it much as an adjudicator for a University Interscholastic League One Act Play contest is charged. I begin by reading the play, which I was vaguely familiar with and possibly considering as an option for my students. I find when I choose a play (especially for contest) I spend more time with it, in pre-production researching and preparing, and it is usually a longer season with the contest play. (Most shows go up in four to six weeks and run for one to two weeks, while contest pieces rehearse for six to eight weeks and can run for up to six weeks.)…

The Kinesis dance performance that I decided to analyze was Last Dance. The dance was choreographed by Amanda Steiner, and the music that was used was “Love in the Dark” by Adel. Besides being the choreographer, Amanda was always one of the two dancers. The form of the dance was a narrative, with Amanda as a wife and the second dancer, Christian Vidaure, as her husband. The idea of Last Dance was about how love sometimes changes, and how those changes lead to drifting apart.…

If you were a god or goddess how will you control the world and what will you do. In the poem “Ego tripping” by Nikki Giovanni the poem is from a perspective view. The settings of the poem is taking place in Egypt. The writer had the perspective of goddess and the children she had and how she is ethereal not of earth but heavenly. The poetry talks a lot about the being the goddess that all men will praise and stating, “I turned myself into myself and was jesus.”…
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a five stage model prioritizing the different psychological and physical necessities, lists “Relationships and Belonging” as an individual’s third most vital need. It states that a person cannot be fulfilled in their life without having intimate relationships. When examining literature this theme becomes especially prevalent; several stories focus on how the loss of community damages a person’s livelihood. For example, this is exhibited in “The Story of Green-Blanket Feet” by Humishima and A Narrative of Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary Rowlandson. In these stories, through the protagonists’ mourning for their people and yearning for a sense of belonging, it becomes evident that humans require…
In the Song of Solomon we go beyond further, we become able to fly, we leave all the material possessions behind, all the fakeness that we are born with all must be gone. In the article “Song of Solomon: To Ride the Air”, the author Dorothy H. Lee explains how important is for us to learn to fly and how this is related to going forward. Flying means to leave the ground, to go further than forward, even though when this seems to be really difficult and we might not be prepared to “leave the ground”. Dorothy H. Lee states that to learn to fly implies to make a change in our life, but it’s required for us in order to go forward; “He is unprepared to flight. Gradually, Milkman will, in the course of the novel, have to learn the secret - something…

Throughout the poem “Choices” Nikki Giovanni portrays the feelings of how it is to be oppressed and not being able to express because you expressions are the ¨normal¨. In the first stanza Nikki seems to describe that she's grateful that at least she can refuse to do things that she doesn't want to but at the same time she displays that she's unable to speak her mind and do the things she wants. This pattern continues and the poem concludes with Giovanni accepting that she will not be able to express certain things because she is oppressed so she practices being okay only expressing thoughts that are accepted by her oppressors. Giovanni never mentions any specific attributes that caused her to be opressed. This is due to her mission that the…
In life we all grew up going though good and bad times. Some of these times have shape us into the men and women we are today. Samantha Vang Angela Coffee Composition II October 16, 2015 Can’t be Contained, Like Air “You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I’ll rise” (lines1-4). Imagine being looked down upon and your enemies expect you to have your head down. They expect you to be broken with tears running down your face because the world is against you. The poem, Still I Rise, clearly addressed to an oppressor of black people.…
This paper claims that the Song of Song is a marker and by product of ancient biblical communal and theological identity with core values that upholds sexual purity and emphasizes the essentiality of desire within covenant love relationship. This paper suggests that Song is an anthology of love songs that emerged from the oral tradition; revised and refined over a period of centuries from 10th to 4th century B.C.E through a medium technology analogous to the shared internet; and edited and recasted in its final form to produce a unified song. Supporting Evidence: 1. Oral rhetorical quality of the Song as rooted in the oral tradition 2.…
