An inmate could have a cell phone in his possession to talk to the outside world. You could also miss the person who just over dose on drugs. Now you are in a law suit.
The family is wanting to sue you because you was not performing your duty which should be outline in your general orders and memorandum orders. You also took an obligation, even thou they are inmates we still have to protect them. Minor things sometimes lead to bigger situation.

Smykla p332) I would say as a safety precaution, it should be two to three men in the control room with the cameras. Reason being is that we are all human and one officers may need to step out of the offices. At least you will know you all ways have someone watching the cameras with two officers in there. This also helps keep officers awake and aware.
These are reason I believe you should try to get much rest as possible before going on shift especially if you are a first responder with someone else life in your hand. After reading the article it has a lot of great surveillance for correction
