Youths who have been bullied tend to turn to drug and alcohol to escape from what they are experiencing. In a paper entitled Cyber Bullying and Physical Bullying in Adolescent Suicide: The Role of Violent Behavior and Substance Use the author states “bullying produce negative psychological states that increase the probability than an adolescent will engage in substance use” (Litwiller, Brausch. 676) Like Litwiller and Brausch stated the psychological state of someone who has been bullied or bullies can cause them to turn to substance abuse an escape. The drugs are a way to help numb the body from the mental pain that others have caused. They use these substances to fit in, deal with stress and have fun. Victims of bullying turn to these to help depress the thought that has, and it can lead back to mental health aspect of things. Like with mental health issues the victims are not the only who turn to substance abuse in this subject. Youth who have been bullied and have developed a mental health issue from being bullied often want to seek revenge on their offender. This can be simple things like getting into a fight or more serious and something we are facing a lot today, murder. Especially with victims that have been bullied on multiple accounts by different people. The anger from these victims can lead to stuff like school shooting or stabbing.
