The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Energy

Superior Essays
There are 3 different types of energy used by the United States, there is solar, nuclear and wind. These types of energy are different from one another, with their own pros and cons.Nuclear power makes over 20 percent of the United States energy producer. Nuclear energy is when clean energy resource. Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms a process called fission. This generates heat to produce steam, which is used by a turbine generator to generate electricity. Some of the pros that are related to nuclear energy, is how little it releases greenhouse gases (CO2) because it does not burn oil or coal but instead use uranium are its main power supply. Another benefit that is unique to nuclear energy is the fact that nature …show more content…
One benefit to solar energy is known for the fact that its environmentally safe. Solar energy is environmentally friendly the only time that solar energy affects the environment is when the components of the panels are being built, other than that solar energy does not affect the environment .A pro to solar energy is how much we receive from the sun. The sun give the earth 120,000 terawatts of energy. Another pro to solar energy is the fact that the earth is always being hit with sun rays. Its especially better for the nations closer to the nations near the equator. Solar energy also can sometime produce more energy that it uses, making it cheaper for people who use solar energy by saving 100 dollars every month. It can also be used many different ways. For example, it can give electricity to places that don’t usually get electricity like powering satellites, villages were a power grids are not available. Solar panels are also silent when converting solar radiation into energy, which some may prefer then other devices that make energy. People also don't have to worry about repairing solar panels, most companies that sell solar panels usually will give you a 25 year warranty just in case it breaks. Solar panels are being improved every day to be more efficient in producing faster energy. Solar energy is renewable source, which means we can never run out of the sunshine. Due to which, utilizing energy from the natural renewable sources like the sun, dependence on sources such as oil and coal that are harmful to environment can be decreased. As shown in figure 2, the solar energy is a renewable energy source. Although, energy that is produced from other sources like coal and natural gas are expensive as well as they are not renewable. Moreover, people have been able to capture some of the sun’s energy that falls to earth and convert it into usable power for a variety of practical uses such as for cooking, heating, and to power everyday appliances.…

The companies will be able to save more gas too, making them richer. The advantages are fewer pollutants in the environment and the companies save money. The disadvantages are price and the technology is still not developed enough. The more solar panels the companies have the less pollution there will be. The cameras will also stop pollution because they can detect gas.…

First the developing countries will fully assimilate solar panels into their power sources and soon after that more developed countries will follow, with the end result being a completely green planet. The money to be made is also of interest to rural citizens, as they would receive free electricity and actually be able to sell their remaining electricity. Poor rural citizens can also receive cheap energy, as the solar panel prices are going down to where people can afford them, and companies are willing to provide energy to users for roughly $2 a month as long as they can keep and sell the remaining energy produced. Solar panels are not only becoming cheaper, but they are also producing cheaper energy, solar energy is a renewable resource making it much cheaper than fossil fuels. There is a downside though; in order to use…

For example, it takes 450 solar stations to produce the same amount of energy that was produced at San Onofre. Second, Nuclear power plants are safer than other energy power plants for workers and nearby inhabitants. This is because working at a nuclear power plant is far less damaging than working in something like a coal power plant. Next, there is a stable supply of uranium and thorium for the many future generations as the foundation to create nuclear energy. Also, there 's really not much waste: the US disposes of 1000 times more EPA-registered hazardous waste materials (e.g., mercury, benzene, coal ash, etc.…

Solar photovoltaic (PV), another method of harnessing the sun’s energy into electricity, is commonly installed on rooftops and integrated into building design as it converts sunlight directly into electricity using photovoltaic cells. No matter what method, solar power, is a renewable energy source, which will never run out as long as the sun exists. Although Australia receives an average of 58 million PJ of solar radiation per year, approximately 10 000 times larger than its total energy consumption; its current use of solar energy accounts for only about 0.1 per cent of Australia 's total primary energy consumption. Solar energy is also extremely environmentally viable as it does not generally cause pollution. There are only minor emissions produced during the manufacturing, transportation and installation of solar power systems, however only minute when compared to coal-power plants.…
