Social media is defined as a form of electronic communication as web sites for social networking and microblogging through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content as videos. It has quickly become a key aspect of the 21st century. It has soon become a daily habit for teenagers and young adults to go on sites like Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram. Social media is impacting the lives of teenagers and young adults in a negative manner because of cyber bullying, procrastination, distraction, and lack of communication. In the recent years, social media has been expanding, meaning that more people are using social media sites on a day-to-day basis. Social media can be used in a positive way by allowing people to use self-expression and connecting with others. Whether the people are friends are not, messages over the internet can be misinterpreted or taken out of context very easily. Not being able to see the persons face or emotions makes it easier for bullies to harass others. Social media truly can be dangerous if it used the wrong way or with the wrong people. In many controversial arguments on social media, people have gone as far as sending death threats, which is not acceptable. Also, depending on their account and person, they may have put out too much information out for the public to see. They may be able to figure out where you live or maybe a place you constantly hang out. This is one reason why social media is affecting our young adults. Fighting, arguing, and now death threats are somethings that they are seeing every day on social media over things like black lives matter, the presidential campaign, and police brutality.
