The Most Dangerous Game Analysis

Decent Essays
In The “Most Dangerous Game” when General Zaroff reveals that he hunts humans on the island Rainsford believes that he is a murderer while Zaroff just doesn’t see it. Zaroff says “Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong”. So because of this we understand that Zaroff believes that the people he captures are the weak ones and he is the strong one therefor, he has every right to hunt the people that he captures. While Rainsford believes that it is inhumane and qualifies as murder in his eyes. Rainsford could not believe it when General Zaroff first said the new information because he said “I can’t believe your serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke.”

Finally, Zaroff is an incredibly evil person and a very bad specimen of humanity but he would be found not guilty in a courtroom. His counterpart, Rainsford, would likely be found not guilty too. Zaroff, for all his sadism, is a sufferer of insanity and the best thing would be to leave him alone on his island and let it serve as his prison.…

The setting of “The Most Dangerous Game” takes place mostly on Ship Trap Island in the 1900s era, where General Zaroff lives and carries out his horrific games. The novel's setting makes the story much more interesting for the reader, as the dense jungle environment provides the perfect place for unexpected twists and turns. If the story, say, took place in a desert, Zaroof would be able to easily track and kill Rainsford, though the story takes place in a jungle, making the hunt difficult and therefore more enjoyable to the…

Irony: At the beginning, Rainsford says to Whitney: “The world is made up of two classes--the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are hunters.” I find this Ironic, since after Rainsford goes on the island, he becomes the huntee, and Zaroff is the hunter. Rainsford is talking about luck, and in this story, he has next to zero luck. He loses his ship, his pipe, his access to the real world, his hunter friend, and gets chased down by a crazy killer who kills for fun.…

He didn’t want to take part in the hunt, but he knew he had to do whatever it took to defeat Zaroff because he didn’t want to die such a shameful death, but more importantly, beat Zaroff at his own game. Trying to maintain his civility, Rainsford had to play Zaroff’s game in order to survive. This conflict between man versus man was very tense. Both men wanted to deem themselves as the ultimate hunter and did whatever they could to win the hunt. Coming from two men sitting at the dinner table eating, now, to two men in the jungle trying to kill each other is very dramatic and illustrates the overwhelming conflict between man versus man in “The Most Dangerous Game.”…
