Throughout this journal, Zaroff can be characterized as cold hearted and mysterious. First off, Zaroff is mysterious because he lives on a mysterious island in the middle of no where. As Rainsford states “OFF THERE to the right--somewhere--is a large island, said Whitney. It's rather a mystery” This quote states that the island is mysterious. Also Rainsford states “We were drawing near the island then. What I felt was a--a mental chill; a sort of sudden dread." (Conell). This explains how the island is creepy and sketchy. Secondly, Zaroff is mysterious because he knows more about Rainsford then Rainsford knows about him. In the quote “I've read your book about hunting snow leopards in Tibet, you see, explained the man. I am General Zaroff.” …show more content…
As states by Zaroff "But no animal can reason, objected Rainsford. My dear fellow, said the general, there is one that can." (Conell). Through this quote one can infer that Zaroff is suggesting that he is hunting humans but at first he never comes out and says it. Zaroff is also extremely cold hearted. First of all, Zaroff is cold hearted. Zaroff says “Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if needs be, taken by the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong.” (Conell) this quote infers that Zaroff does not care about ones life and does not mind taking one. Further more, Zaroff does not care about his friends and/or acquaintance. “You've done well, Rainsford, the voice of the general called. Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of my best dogs. Again you score.” (Connel) In this quote Zaroff tells Rainsford that he had killed one of his best dogs without even batting an eye. Thirdly Rainsford thinks he is soupier to most people. Zaroff states “Ivan is an incredibly strong fellow, remarked the general, but he has the misfortune to be deaf and dumb. A simple fellow, but, I'm afraid, like all his race, a bit of a savage.” This quote tells the reader that he is an arrogant and

According to “Dictionary.com” the definition of a psychopath is “a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior.” In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by: Richard Connell, General Zaroff demonstrates these psychopathic characteristics. Throughout the text there are examples that provide proof that Zaroff is a psychopath. In the beginning of the story we are introduced to two friends, Whitney and Rainsford, on a Yacht bound for Rio. Both are big game hunters headed to a hunting trip in the Amazon River.…

On page 21 line 452-453, it exclaims, “I am to follow, armed only with a pistol of the smallest caliber and range.” (General Zaroff) After a thorough understanding of the quote, I conclude that General Zaroff is a deceiver. The reason I say that is because he has more advantage in killing a person from a distance than the person that is running away from him. General Zaroff knows the island like the back of his hand; he knows where the Death Swamp is located and he knows where he's going.…

The impact of such a fake quote remaining in history as something that was said by Jarre, rather than something that was made up by Fitzgerald is that the quote would become referenced so many times by renowned print and online media outlets without challenge. Thus, it would become an inaccurate fact about Jarre. The quote may also have a negative impact on the receiving audience such as academic sources where it is found. For example, a music school in a university may write journal articles referencing the Fitzgerald’s fake quote thinking it is Jarre’s quote to encourage its students to emulate one of the best music composers in the world in order to perform well. The discovery of the inaccurate information may result in the university being…

I dissagree with Hemingway's statement that defines courage as "Grace under pressure" In the story "The Leap" It says "My mother onces said that I'd be amazed at how many things a person could do during the act of falling"( ). With this quote, being courageous would to be able to fall on your own, but to be grace under pressure you would think a lot while falling. Also in The Leap It says "I was not suprised to see her, she was smiling, she was so matter-of-fact, she tapped on the window, I remember how she did it too, it was the friendliest tap." ( ). In this quote to be courageous you would go save your daughter but to be grace under pressure you would be calm while saving her.…

Zaroff has chosen to kill people that come on his island, but first he brings them to his extravagant home to show how successful he is and earn their respect. Ultimately, Rainsford’s skill and wits coupled with Zaroff’s overconfidence helps Rainsford to win the game and not be killed. In “The Most Dangerous Game”, Connell shows readers how they cannot make assumptions about someone’s character based on their affluence because that does not reflect who they are inside. Rainsford learns this the hard way when he is so quick to befriend Zaroff only to find out just hours later that he plans to hunt him.…
