The Mayas, Incas, and the Aztecs are all civilizations that we still don’t completely understand. You may have seen movies or read stories about these people but you have to understand we are all only going off our intuitions. The people part of that civilization are long gone now, but they left us with artifacts that have helped us find out who these people were and what they believed. In my essay I will talk about three ancient civilizations, the Mayas, the Incas, and the Aztecs. I will say a little about their geography, religion and achievements as well.
The Mayas
The Mayas are a Mesoamerican civilization; they lived in what today is known as southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, parts of Honduras, and El Salvador for thousands of years beginning in 1800 BC. The capital city of the Mayans was Tikal. The land where they lived still has areas that are not yet explored by archaeologists, so you can imagine how vast their range was. The Mayan language contained many dialects, like Qhuche, Cakchiquel, Kekchi, and Mam. The Mayans were polytheistic; they believed that hundreds of gods were controlling their lives. To avoid floods and crop failure the Mayans would sacrifice someone and offer their blood to please their gods. Kings and priests were thought to have special relationships with the gods and so they were very powerful among the people.
