The Maya, Aztec, and the Inca have similarities and differences. The Maya and the Aztec might have something in common that the Inca don’t have or vise versa. The Maya lived in the modern day Yucatan Peninsula. The Maya time period lasted from 200 AD to 925 AD. The Aztec lived in the modern day Valley of Mexico.…

The Mayan civilization was an amazing group of people that lived in Mesoamerica between the years of 300-900 A.D. These people were capable of incredible things, such as their effortful trade network, expansive cities, and ingenious number system. But the most remarkable of all, was the amazing Mayan calendars. That is because of the genius and effort they put into creating it, and the significant role it played in their lives.…

The Cause of the Maya Collapse When the Spaniards arrived in Mesoamerica in the 1500s, only the bones of the once great civilization remained. The Mayans had abandoned what they once had called their home. Although, this disappearance leads to the following question: what had caused the Maya Collapse? The ancient civilization of Maya had collapsed because of political conflicts, war, and drought that had set in Mesoamerica; however, the fall was predominantly due to the overpopulation in Mayan cities and, in conjunction, the overuse of land. Before its fall, Maya had once been a flourishing and significant civilization.…
The Mayans are Native Americans from Guatemala. They have struggled for their survival since the Conquistadores defeated the Maya Chief Tecum Uman. Today there are about 4 million Maya. About 200,000 have migrated to the United States since 1970 for a better life. (Roger Daniels 2001)…
The Mesoamerican region is the cradle of civilization of the Americas, it has given rise to some of the most successful empires in history, starting from 1200 BC until the Spanish conquest of the area in 1525 AD. Two of the very prominent reigning civilizations within the region during the Classic Period (200 - 800 AD) include the Mayan and Teotihuacan civilizations which was home to hundreds of thousands of inhabitants. Although they have many similarities between them since they existed at the same time within the same region, they also each have distinctive features which differentiates their cultures from one another. The major cities of the Mayan Classic period are within present-day southern Mexico, Guatemala, northern Belize and…
The Decline of the Mayan Civilization Thought to be the founders of the Mesoamerican empire, the Mayan culture began around 1800 B.C. Around 200 A.D, the mayans experienced a time of great advancements and thrived until about 900 A.D. The Mayans were able to create large cities without “essential” tools such as metal or the wheel. They were also about to create a 356 day calendar, which we still base our calendars off of today. To creating their own writing system using a form of hieroglyphics, to having a higher understanding of astronomy, it's easy to see that they were advanced for their time. Soon after their era of great advancements, their once astonishing way of life started to decline.…
All of the cultures that we have discussed in the course thus far have been quite fascinating, and important lessons can be drawn from each and every one of them. The culture that stands out to me the most, however, is the Maya culture. It is perhaps due to the considerable amount of similarities that occurred before the Mayan collapse and between the problems that the world we live in is facing today. The Mayas were an incredibly advanced, powerful, inventive and long-lasting culture. However, even with all of its advantages, faced with several political and ecological challenges, the Maya civilization could not survive the challenges that came their way.…

One of the most dominant indigenous societies in Mesoamerica includes the Maya civilization. The Maya primarily inhabited the Yucatan Peninsula of modern-day Mexico and other sections of modern-day Guatemala and Mexico; they occupied the area from around 1800 BC. The Mayans dominated the area in the time period from 300 C.E. to 900 C.E., which historians consider the classical period of the Maya civilization. The Empire reached its peak—its golden age—in sixth century C.E. Nineteen million people, which constituted three culturally and linguistically different groups, very densely populated the area. The Mayans excelled in ornate pottery, innovative agriculture, astronomical observations, and complex yet foundational mathematics; they also…
Maya civilization during the classic period reached its peak in the central region around the eighth century with powerful city-states such as Tikal, Copan, Palenque, and Cobah flourishing and spreading from southern Mexico to northern Honduras. However, this glorious age was soon followed by a marked decline, with diminished populations, a reduction in building and art production, an increased obsession with warfare and military fortification. New discoveries and newly deciphered stone carvings provides evidences indicating that the Maya warred frequently and viciously among themselves. Many scholars have attributed this to the increased pressure from the militaristic Teotihuacan culture of the Valley of Mexico as a contributing factor. War…
