Historically, ERP system integration in organizations combats lack of cooperation across multifarious IT solutions. The purpose of ERP applications is therefore to integrate information flows across an organization, heighten access to information and share out practices across an organization, as well as automate common corporate activities. That is exactly what Nike set out to do in 1999 with a business plan to implement a single instance ERP system along with CRM and SCM systems.
In 1962, Philip Knight and Bill Bowerman founded Nike as Blue Ribbon Sports and in early 70s became Nike Inc. Nike’s world headquarters are located near Beaverton, Oregon. Nike has three main product lines - footwear, apparel and equipment. Since its founding, Nike has continuously experienced growth and become the market leader of athletic merchandise. Today, the company’s products sell in more than 160 countries across the globe with more than 35,000 employees in six continents. More than 600 contract factories employing about 800,000 workers in 46 countries around the world manufacture Nike’s product lines. The company’s global operations are divided into United States, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Asia Pacific and Americas.
