Some disadvantages of being a pediatrician are long years and expensive schooling, becoming attached to a patient, and dealing with very ill children or even the loss of a child. Other disadvantages are working long hours and working on weekends or holidays, and being on call regularly in case of emergencies. A lot of pediatricians work in offices that will only run during normal business hours. Some pediatricians can maintain a regular schedule, but most are on call for any emergencies that will occur.
