Toni Cade Bambara wrote a short story "The Lesson," which focuses on education as the primary theme because she is aware that in the united states, black children are most likely to live in poverty than other races. Every two children out of five are living in poverty.(CNN) Her story begins with a group of uneducated, poor, young children from lower class and the only college-educated black women, Ms.Moore. The three most important characters from this story are Sylvia, Sugar, and Ms.Moore. Ms.Moore is self appointed-educator from town because she thinks that teaching them is her responsibility as the educated person. Miss Moore represents a consistent and influential personality throughout the story for the kids. Her ability to make the young children speaking about this openly to each other in the right direction is significant. She can give the children’s mind exercise and put them through enough working scenarios for the material to “click” for them. She captures the children’s attention by bringing in a range of standard. Without this type of role model and teacher, such as Miss Moore, the kids would never have questions like, “Equal chance to pursue happiness means an equal crack at the dough, don’t it?”
