Why is it that guns are always discussed in a negative light? Why do we, as a society, obsess over the ten people killed in a school shooting and completely ignore the millions of people saved by guns? Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense, not to mention that the police routinely use guns to stop vindictive criminals. If you question how effective police are when they bear a gun, you should know that three fifths of polled felons said they would not “mess with” an armed person. This rings true with police and citizens alike: only 3% of armed womens’ attempted rapes were actually successful.
In the media it hard to get any factual information on any topics of controversy since everything is polluted with biases. So let me give you the facts, before I entertain what pro gun control argue. In the US only 35% of firearm deaths are homicides, the other percentage is comprised of suicides.In the UK--where they have an immense amount of gun control--the number of suicides done without a gun is 60% showing that people will just use different resources to achieve suicideIn the UK possession of handguns is illegal yet there are 2034 violent crimes per 100,000 people while in the US there are only 466 violent crimes per 100,000 peopleTwice as many children are killed playing football in school than are murdered by guns.
