Nursing is a very important career in which many factors need to be taken seriously. I agree and chose two recommendations from the "Institute of Medicine of The National Academies-Report Recommendations: The first one I choose is number four, which “recommends that there should be an increase of nurses with baccalaureate degree to 80 percent by 2020”. The second recommendation I choose is number six, which states that is “recommended that nurses engage in lifelong learning throughout their nursing career”. I choose this two recommendations because if they are implemented, the quality of healthcare will be enhanced.
Recommendation 4: Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80 percent by 2020
I agree with this recommendation because there is a higher demand of complex care, leadership abilities, and need for more resources/programs to help nurses obtain a baccalaureate degree. There has been an increase in the diversity and complexity of the care demanded by patients. According to the Institute of Medicine, “The American population is growing older, chronic conditions remain prevalent. For example, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, cardiovascular, and mental diseases are nowadays very common conditions. Most of this chronic conditions are linked to a high obesity population. Sadly, this epidemic is continuously increasing affecting children in early age as well. This predicts a more ill population in the future. Nurses need to be educated in order…
