Nyamkapa and Gregson (2005) reported low rates of primary school completion amongst maternal orphans, as a result of lack of support from fathers and stepmothers. Extraordinary efforts are therefore needed to provide for children orphaned by the epidemic, especially in the form of measures that afford them access to education, food, health care and other social support. Sexual behaviour of PLWHA is of considerable importance for limiting the spread of the disease, especially after diagnosis. Their work promotes social solidarity with HIV-affected individuals and their families, provides them with emotional support, and helps protect them against discrimination and violations of their rights (UNAIDS 2001). Often their activism helps prompt governments to devote more resources to the AIDS response and spurs companies to lower drug prices (UNAIDS, 2001). Comprehensive care and support depend upon improved health systems to boost access to comprehensive care and support services, including the life-saving drugs PLWHA need (UNAIDS,
