Our Sleep Sleep affects our daily lives in physical and mental ways. Also, getting enough sleep can help us to have a superior family structure, better socioeconomic status, and improve our health. Not only that, sleep is the best way to recover energy. Sleep is important for our well-being. Sleep quality and amount can change according races. Dr. Fuller-Rowell is professor in the college of human sciences at auburn University and has done tons of research about sleep. (“Thomas E. Fuller-Rowell, Ph.D”). Dr. Fuller-Rowell and colleagues did study where it show the less we sleep; then, less productive we become (Fuller-Rowell et al., 2016).They found African Americans tend to get worse sleep than European Americans (Fuller-Rowell et al., 2016). In fact, TIMES Magazine did one study, the researchers found that blacks and Asians don’t get the same amount sleep as much as whites do. While another study showed …show more content…
For example “…serious medical conditions, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease (“Sleep and Health”). Moreover, a study from in Harvard Medical school said, “…people who slept fewer than six hours per a night on regular basis were much more likely to have excess body weight…”(Sleep and Health). According to National Heart, Lung, and blood institute, “…your level of ghrelin goes up and your level of leptin goes down” (“Why is sleep Important”). In others words, this makes you feel hungrier than normal (“Why is sleep important?”). Furthermore, lack of sleep can affect your immune system, and you are likely to get sick more easy (Olson). Next, “lack of sleep can cause take longer to finish tasks, have a slower reaction time, and make more mistakes” (Sleep and health). In fact, we could be in danger by not getting enough sleep, because research shows that sleeping less than five hours a night can extend the risk of death by about fifteen percent (“Sleep and
