As the new year starts, many Americans are eager to start new diets. There are so many diet plans out there, such as; Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins, and South Beach. These are just a few of the major diet plans that are advertised on the television, but there are millions of diet plans and tips on the internet. I am also striving to shed a couple of those unwanted holiday pounds. I am very interested in high protein diets and their efficiency. In this paper I will research the best protein diets, their effectiveness, and most importantly their safety.

A high protein diet is a weight loss plan that is strictly focused around more protein and less carbohydrates. There are many different kinds of high protein diets. Atkins and South Beach are the most advertised high protein meal plans. Atkins Diet strictly limits your sugar and carbohydrate consumption and focuses on high proteins and fats (atkins.com). South Beach Diet does not completely eliminate carbohydrates, it focuses the low consumption of carbohydrates, lean proteins, and high fiber intake (southbeachdiet.com).

When you consume large amounts of food you can still gain weight. Throughout this study, I have discovered many pro’s and con’s about high-protein diet plans. I also learned that high-protein diets are just as effective as normal low-carb diets. If you are looking for a more filling diet, then high-protein is the diet for you. Although, to obtain the level of weight loss you are striving for, any diet must be accompanied by a daily workout routine. In conclusion, high-protein diets are not exactly life threatening. I strongly suggest seeing a doctor before starting your weight loss journey. Your doctor can give you the diet and exercise plan that is right for
