Each year thousands of students go off to college for their fist time. They are filled with excitement to start a new chapter in their life but many forget the importance of eating healthy. In several universities they offer different eating options for their students unfortunately here at saint josephs college there is a lack of healthy options for students. When you walk into the cafeteria you will notice that there is only one healthy food option for students. The rest of it is all greasy food that is not the best choice for students. The lack of healthy options isn’t the only thing that is a problem for the students of Saint Josephs. The other problem is the fact that there is a lack of health education provided for the students. I knew that the food at Saint Joseph’s was not the healthiest and many students agree that a lot could improve our food. The fact that the school has not yet done anything about it is crazy. It is not hard to change the menu in the cafeteria. This can be done on a global scale as well. IF each university provided healthier food and provided the education of eating healthy and the importance of knowing were the products are coming from can help the college and community become more sustainable. My thinking has evolved in many ways through out this semester. For one I am more aware of the damage that our actions have on our environment. With the help of core 6 I am more influenced to find an apartment that is more sustainable and possibly a neighborhood that is sustainable. I will also be more aware of where I get my food from and if it is organic. Our project could be linked to The Principle of Participation, because it is not only the job of the college to provide healthier food option but also the student’s job to demand for these options. One of them is as a criminal justice mayor I would want to be looking into departments that practice sustainability. Since I want to be a police officer I might want to consider working in a neighborhood that is sustainable or try helping neighborhoods become more sustainable. I would be working on figuring out how we can make officers be more sustainable possibly with the equipment that they use.
