The management of an organisation in Canada is governed by the federal as well as the provincial laws. A consistent compliance to the terms and conditions is essential in order to hire and retain the workforce. Hence, the laws framed by the constitution are of immense importance for the organisations that strive for creating a progressive work environment.Some important laws governing the province are:

The provincial law provides the right to freedom from discrimination in five social areas: employment, housing, services and facilities, vocational associations and contracts.
The Code prohibits discrimination based on the following grounds- age, ancestry, disability, citizenship, ethnicity, colour, place of origin, sexual orientation, gender expression, race, family status, gender identity,creed, record of offences,marital status, sex, receipt of public assistance. (Ohrconca, 2016).

The rights of individuals with disabilities are protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well the Ontario’s Human Rights Code (Ontarioca, 2016).

i.e customer service, employment, built in environment, information and communications, and modes of transportation should be adapted according to the needs of the person. One of the methods to make an organization’s commitment to diversity explicit is to draft such policies that reflect its values. Some of the suggestions are:
• Develop an employment equity plan (under the guidance of an advisory committee) to achieve a representational hiring among faculty and staff.
• Create an effective outreach program that will lead to promotion of employment opportunities in order to boost the diversity of the candidate pool.
• Reinforce compliance with the requirements of the legislation (the Ontario Human Rights Code ) and collective agreements that cover the various groups of academic staff.
