STRATEGIES TO MANAGE A DIVERSE WORKFORCE
When organisations operate in a diverse human resource environment, managers need to develop suitable skills and formulate appropriate strategies to overcome the challenges posed by diversity. Some of the strategies could be as follows:

a. Encourage Open Communication: Managers operating in a multicultural environment must enable and encourage open communication between the employees, so that they understand individual values and perspectives. Managers must also encourage the participation of these work groups in decision-making for the organisation.
b. Elicit Opinions: Managers must interact with employees to understand if any diversity issues in terms of race, religion or gender exists and formulate policies accordingly to ensure better diversity management. They should also communicate these policies to the employees to create awareness and to avoid any unpleasant situations in the

In a competitive market, a company needs to ensure that they create a unique space for themselves through steps that differentiate them from the others. Therefore, gaining a competitive advantage through diversity can:

a. Help Increase Market Share: Diversity, when managed well can provide a competitive advantage to the organisation. The managers can utilise the knowledge of the employees with regard to the market information, customer preferences and choices. Also, a diverse workforce can provide a better understanding of other customs and traditions, cultures and market requirements and helps the company make informed decisions.
