The Importance of Academic Honesty
Academic Honesty is an increasingly important aspect of the education process. The concerns of academic honesty and the lack of it are increasing, therefore colleges and universities are taking immense measures to control academic dishonesty. This paper will describe the definition of academic dishonesty as defined by Hard, Conway and Moran as well as describe the importance of academic honesty. The long term negative effects of academic dishonesty will be discussed as well as the various methods of deterrence. Building and acquiring academic integrity can encourage a student to become more confident with his or her academic assignments as well as improving him or herself

Professorial wrongdoing can include the improper grading of the students assignments, carelessness toward or support in cheating, favoritism for a particular student or viewpoint, and the trading of favorable grades in exchange for bribes, or other favors.
With the concerns of academic dishonesty and lack of integrity within adult students; universities and colleges over the past years have developed guidelines and policies to address this issue that has become an epidemic. These guidelines and policies are modernized regularly to avoid the persistence of the students’ dishonesty. Adult students who have a weak spot in the area of awareness of academic dishonesty can be caused from a number of aspects, for instance the lack of memory from their past academic knowledge. The expectations of a student are for him or her to have the common knowledge not to cheat. In other cases the student may not have been taught or the knowledge of citing his or her references of his or her sources. Properly citing the sources of information helps the reader to know that the information is not original and will help the reader to locate the original source. When academic dishonesty occur the college or university will take action against the student using its set of rules and regulations that can lead to expulsion from the institution.
