There’s a scanty amount of people in the world who haven’t had a hero to look up to at some point in their life. It doesn’t have to be red, white, and blue like superman, but maybe something more transparent, like a mom who works all day just to provide for her children at night. Or maybe even a social activist, like Ghandi. According to Christopher Reeve, the actor for superman in the 80’s, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”. Regardless of the image and style the hero comes in, they have consistently been around for many generations, for people of all ages. It might make someone inquire, why do we have heroes? Why do we look up to a role model and anticipate to be like them one day? Is it foolish of us? Despite all these inquisitions that form when one thinks about the origins of a hero, it is certain that humans hold a primal need and want for heroes because it is necessary to believe that no matter the circumstance, there will always be a small glimmer of hope for survival. Survival can mean many things to many people, but here it 's the overarching concept of getting better, or making it through a dilemna. It is at these times, where we look up at the skies and challenge ourselves what a hero would do in our situation. So why do we rely on heroes to get us through the day?
