Heroes In The Odyssey

A hero is anyone who has the ability to express themselves. In the past, the definition of a hero was much more narrow than in the current day. Today, who a hero is depends entirely on perspective. A hero to one could be the enemy to another. This concept of what it takes to be a hero has changed as time went on. Recently, the image of a hero has been somewhat blurred (compared to in the past). Now, there is no clear-cut answer to “What does it mean to be a hero?” Any individual, male or female, wealthy or poor, strong or weak, old of young, can be a hero. Any individual who is capable of standing before a crowd and acts on their words, can be a hero. A hero is anyone that has the ability to inspire a group of people, or even themselves. A strong sense of justice is no longer a requirement to be a hero. What people now view as “justice” is no longer “in sync” with one another. So therefore, a hero, one who brings “justice,” no longer has to be tied down to such a strict definition. The current world no longer has a clear image of what is right and wrong, so can no longer have a clear image of what a hero is. In a world constantly growing more self-absorbed, a “hero” really depends on how one sees it.
