The Giraffe Analysis

Change is a reoccurring concept in our lives. Weather we like it or not, we cannot stop it. The Giraffe by Mauro Senesi is a prime example that people do not always react the change the same ways. In the novel, ‘the boys’ were faced with having to be courageous, accepting and determined in order to save the giraffe. Similarly, these are qualities we use in our everyday lives.

Firstly, the boys in the story had to find courage with in; in order to save the giraffe as no one else wanted to do it. They were forced to step outside of their comfort zone as they had to put their pride aside. When they were strategizing ways to save the giraffe, one of the boys suggested taking it to a zoo however, “Rolandino said the giraffe had to stay free” (Senesi) as he believed it should be able to live without restrictions. They were determined to give the giraffe a life he deserved and have him be able to walk around freely regardless of him being different. This reminds me of my determination of achieving 80 percent and above averages in all my classes regardless of how hard I have to work, as it makes me feel proud. Similar to the boys, I had to create multiple plans while keeping my goal in mind. I was able to achieve this goal multiple times as I stuck to my plan of prioritizing classes and finishing my work based on deadlines. If the boys were able to create a plan sooner, they giraffe might have been able to have a proper life as Rolandino hoped. In conclusion, the boys in Mauro Senesi short story, The Giraffe, exemplified courageous actions, being accepting and determined resulting in the giraffe to be able to have a much more enjoyable life as they stopped the majority from hurting him. Similar to the boys, I have felt and experienced the emotions they have in different situations I was faced with due to change.
