When thinking about an issue that impacts children in early childhood education, only one comes to my mind. The issue I choose is bullying. It has been around for quite some time and affects children. Bullying refers to a person using physical, verbal, and emotional actions to intimidate or harm another person. There are primarily four forms of bullying. The first form of bullying is physical, which consists of physical actions harming another person. Hitting, pushing, kicking, and scratching are some examples. The next form is social bullying. This type of bullying focuses on affecting someone else emotionally. I support and promote anti-bullying throughout the school I work at. My coworkers and I have provided our students with a “safe space” throughout the entire school. We hardly have any instances of bullying. As teachers, we educate students on what bullying is, what it does, and how it can affect someone. Schools are now focusing on anti-bullying environments. They’re having informational assemblies, support groups, and anti-bullying challenges. These changes in schools are beneficial in eliminating bullying from school environments. When I have a classroom of my own, I will encourage children to treat one another with respect. I will also labeled my classroom as a “safe space.” For now, I inform the younger generations about the dangers of bullying and how to stop it. The children at my preschool love hearing about the topic. They can identify when someone is being a bully and know how to stop it. This younger generation gives me hope for a anti-bullying world.
