When looking at iconic films such as A Trip to the Moon one can see how film has really looked in terms of special effects for the early 1900 's. The original rocket landing in the moons eye, still iconic today, starts off the movie with a plethora of special effects for the time thus showing what film development was like at the time. Truly ahead of it 's time, A Trip to the Moon illustrates Greek astronomers traveling and landing on the moon as the title suggests. Once there, they encounter moon beings called Selenites and have some trouble with these inhabits of the moon leading to their return to earth with a captured Selenite and a glorious parade in their honor. The length alone of the movie shows the limitations of the production as well as being a silent film. But what really stands out is the story line and use of special effects that truly paint a vivid fantasy tale. Film development had now taken a turn into new uncharted territories. The heavy use of CGI as well as major use of green screens completely altered the way films were made. Remote locations were no longer a need for many films as these places could merely just be edited in. Although some of these techniques had been used before, the development was changing faster with the heavy use and introduction of computers into film development. This too was something done over the years but now again more common. Cartoons were soon being replaced by entirely CGI dominated films which children now know including Shrek and Finding Nemo. Present day film development now uses many new styles of filming with many different styles of color and artistic expression promoting many different ideas as 300 did by pushing the envelope of action violence using almost entire green screen cut screens.
