The debate over whether television is harmful to children language development is still present at this time. Television is a sharp and dominant force in American society. Today, television is not only part of almost any home worldwide, but also is seen in schools, universities, hospitals, etc. Televisions are present in almost every home and children are watching an average of 28 hours of TV per week (Nancy, 1997). Many people have wondered at some point if this common device used by children, adolescents, and adults, is good or not. For this reason, this issue has been the subject of many studies that analyze if the TV is a positive or negative factor for the development of the language of the children. It is important to know what type of programs benefit children since childhood is a time of rapid learning and development. Educational television is a particular programming format designed to help and assist educational and learning needs of children. Current popular educational programs include Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, Blue’s Clues, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse among other programs. Studies show that children learn from educational programs like these, which help children in building vocabulary, number skills, and problem-solving skills. Therefore, we need to identify the programs that help increase the language development of children and discard programs that delay it.
