The Effects of stress on the body
Everyone experiences stress at one point in their life. There are multiple ways stress affects the body. School work, family issues and your job can be perfect examples of stress. No matter how stressed you get it will cause damage to the body. There are two types of stress short term and long term stress. Both do damage to your body.
Short tern stress is normal, this is what happens when stress is temporary. Even though it is short term, stress can still do damage to your body. Short term stress can last as little as a few hours to a few days. Short term stress effects the body in multiple ways, such as chest pain, stiff muscles, headache, cold skin with goose bumps, breathlessness, dry mouth, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, difficulty in concentrating, memory disturbance, abdominal discomfort, depression and outbursts of anger. Stress can affect the liver. The liver will release more sugar into the blood stream, which if you’re vulnerable can lead to type-two diabetes. You are also more likely at getting sick because the liver isn’t functioning right, therefore your immune system is weak. Long term stress shrinks the hippocampus, the brains memory storage area, and causes more white masses on the brain. The end result is you will have long term memory loss. Stress can lead to hair loss or even balding, which mainly is our own fault due to poor diet and health. Stress can ruin your teeth, People tend to grind their teeth more when they are stressed out. Stress can physically damage your heart muscles. Stress can make you age faster by not letting telomeres (structures on the end of chromosomes) grow at a normal speed, which leads to the signs of ageing: wrinkles, poor eye sight, weak muscles, and more.
