Mother of the house would not have energy or the mindset to function properly at home neither to address the basic needs of her children nor to emotionally support them. Also there is no data available to know how much children of these households are affected by seeing, hearing, or feeling when the act of rape happens under their roof. The stance of Indian government on the marital rape issue has been neutral. Government of India believes that marital rape has its roots in poverty, religious beliefs, and social and cultural values of Indian society. Therfore, without changing the culture of tolerance toward marital rape the issue can not be addressed. Yet the government does not provide any interventions in the communities to change men’s behavior for exampl one intervention that could be easily enforced by the government is sex education at schools. On the other hand the judicial system of India is reluctant to identify marital rape as a criminal offence. An attempt was taken by the Justice Verma’s committee that set up after the incident of a gang rape in Delhi that attracted international attention, recommended marital rape be criminalized in 2013 that was rejected
