There is a beautiful and remarkable presence around every corner of this world. Sometimes it is the purpose of an event, or a subtle addition to the background of daily life, or sometimes it can be as vital as oxygen. I do not believe that, in this life, I will ever find the words to accurately describe how much music means to me or the role that it plays in my life. Music is a vital presence in my daily life. I cannot imagine a world without the presence of music. Music is an element that I use all day, every day. I used to wonder every now and again, if music did for others what it does for me. Confucius once said, “music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” But it is not only Confucius who understands what music is about. Music is powerful and it affects each and every one of us in one way or another, every day in a mental, emotional, and/or physical way. In the research of “How and Why Does Music Move Us?”, psychologist, Adam Croom discussed the role of music in five commonly recognized factors that are characteristics of human flourishing or well-being. These five factors are the positive emotion that music has the power to bring out, relationships, engagement, achievements, and meaning (Hodges 2015). Croom’s research was done through neuroimaging studies that showed the potential that music had and continues to have, for enhancing the human experience.
