The case study that I have selected regards Jonathan who is an 8-year-old white boy who is considered smart but often at times is a handful. Jonathan mother and his teacher believe that he suffers from attention-deficit/ hyperactivity also known as ADHD. Jonathan has been evaluated when he was in first grade by the school psychologist. After taking the test and being evaluated Jonathan was diagnosis with ADHD (Mixed Type) and mild to moderate oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and family tension (C, P, & P, 2008). Jonathan is the second of three children ranging from the age of 3 to 10 years old who were born to working parents who separate and reconcile. Jonathan also suffer from asthma. The local pediatrician treats Jonathan’s asthma with Albuterol and offered to prescribed psychostimulant for the ADHD. Jonathan father declined the psychostimulant medication due the time it was prescribed. Jonathan parents are concerned about his wellbeing and will like to participate in family meeting due to the fact that they work it’s hard for them to agree to a schedule due to their work schedule (C, P, & P, 2008).
According to the national The National Institute of Mental Health (TsflMH, 2007) it is estimates that children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) account for 2%-5% of the population in the United States. As a result, some 2 million children exhibit symptoms of ADHD, which has become the most frequently diagnosed childhood neurobehavioral disorder…
