A mother, named Elizabeth Stone, once said, “Making a decision to have a child - it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” When woman have the honor to be a mother, they are not only looking after themselves anymore. A mother must think about her child above her-self from day one in the pregnancy. Mothers must nurture their baby so they will grow to become a healthy adult one day. A lot of decisions come into play with pregnancy like some listed here: birthing centers, breastfeeding, and location of delivery. A woman can decide to have her baby in a hospital or in her own home depending of what type of delivery she wants. A women may consider to have a waterbirth. A waterbirth is where a woman gets in a tub filled with warm water to deliver her baby.
Historically, water birth has been used by many cultures all over the world. There is evidence that Egyptians birthed only selected babies underwater. They were selected because the babies were to become the priest and priestesses. Some cultures like the Minoans used a sacred temple for their waterbirth. The Chumash Indian men of the California coast would chant and drum while a women in the tribe was having their baby along the beach. Waterbirth has became traditions in many families in the Hawaiian Islands for generations. In 1803, the first recorded modern water birth took place in France. It was said that the woman found relief after laboring forty-eight long hours.…
