Argumentative Essay On Pro Gun Control

The Second Amendment of the constitution states “that citizens have the right to a regulated militia, if necessary for the security of free state and the right to bear arms, shall not be infringed”(legal information institute, 2016). What this signifies is that citizens of the United States have a right to carry weapons, such as firearms, and posses the ability to create a militia, or small infantry if they feel that their freedom is being threatened or taken away. By imposing regulations or laws that take away this right to bear arms is also taking away from the citizens ability to defend their freedom from any attacks whether they be foreign or domestic. However, there are still individuals such as Katie McGinty, publisher of “Gun Violence”, who is pro gun control and believes that there should be more regulations on guns and less access to them. The first point brought about by Katie McGinty states that in the last year alone 14,000 people were killed by guns in the United States, which roughly estimates to about 38 deaths committed by firearms daily. One can argue that this death tole number could be significantly smaller if these individuals had a weapon of their own that could be used for self-defense against these attacker. Although weapons such as pistols, rifles, assault rifles and shotguns are deadly, they also have many benefits such as self-defense, which can deter an attacker by simply revealing the weapon. The U.S has many laws and regulations that individuals must follow in order to purchase and attain a firearm, however Katie 's article perceives these regulations to be weak and flawed even though they are not.
