We live in a day and age where we are free to live however we please. We talk about our freedom as if everyone is free. Slavery was abolished, but is it really gone? People are not aware of what is going on around us. The unjust enslavement and trade over human beings is growing, which confirms that a huge problem in the world today is human trafficking. Human trafficking involves violating someone’s rights and stripping them of their dignity for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor, or to commit sex acts for the purpose of creating pornography. Human trafficking is a worldwide phenomenon, which is known as one of the world’s quickest growing criminal industries. “It has become an organized billion dollar industry and has at its core, investors, unscrupulous recruiters and corrupt public officials as principal participants” (Human Trafficking). In order to obtain their victims, the participants will kidnap prostitutes, younger children, or people who are alone and vulnerable. Exploiters will often times use a broken family or environment as a way to lure people in by promising a better life of love and luxury. We come across more people who are involved with human trafficking than we realize because of the lack of caution or comprehension we have about the issue. We live in a broken world, yet we are comfortable and content with it because we are not held down to slavery. There aren’t very many organizations or individuals willing to give assistance to help aid this problem. Anybody is able to help with decreasing this disgraceful plight.
