Introduction Thesis Development and Purpose
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), which is commonly known by the unofficial name of ObamaCare is an American healthcare transformation law of the land expanding and improving access to care while minimizing spending through government regulation and taxes. This is a Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and a health modification law signed on March 23, 2010 by President Barack Obama. The main reason why this healthcare reform was started is to provide more Americans with affordable health insurance, and improvement of health insurance. Due to its large and complicated start, many people did not understand initially how it worked, but the government worked hard with advertisement and introducing new initiatives which mainly focused on customer excellence in customer service. Critique of ACA approach cited a few disadvantages including that some critiques belief that ACA has made healthcare less attainable to the middle class. This is not accurate as since database shows it certainly benefits all classes of people and being able to obtain insurance regardless of pre-existing conditions. The Affordable Care Act has shown a lot of important initiatives offering Americans many opportunities of benefits, rights and protection of their healthcare while setting up a Marketplace where Americans can buy federal controlled subsidized Health insurance. It has also set strategies for the future by expanding Medicare for the aging, Medicaid for adults in many states and improving, and has expanded employer coverage to millions of people who did not have insurance coverage. Customer complaints are taken seriously and addressed accordingly for the company advocates emphasis on customer satisfaction. Urban large health systems, which serve as safety nets for the larger populations with a lower socioeconomic status and also whose most of the population speak English as a second language, do worse on government patient satisfaction than the smaller non-urban hospitals likely to serve white customers with higher educational level. Patient satisfaction is important and it is a key part in determining reimbursement levels to hospital by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The ACA has encouraged hospitals to change from fee-for-service model to base care on measure of value and patient satisfaction. In addition, hospitals are rewarded or penalized on the standard that assess the quality of care of the patients. Surveys on quality and customer values are performed by Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys. The studies of customer satisfaction with ACA indicates that the interpretation of patient satisfaction can be complex, but it is very important to understand the trends in order to provide the customers of the highest quality of patient experience.
