This quote explains that religion today has to go through an "acid test” in order to see if the world agrees with what its beliefs are. Luckily, today in the U.S., we have the freedom of religion, so Americans can practice whatever religion they like, which is one of the things that the U.S. has assented to. As Americans, we also assent that slavery is bad and that we are not/will not do it again. Assent, in this case, means the expression of approval or agreement, which the agreement is the people of the United States giving their consent to something. Lastly, we assent to the constitution that the founding fathers set in place for us hundreds of years ago. These three things are crucial to everyday life in America and are the basis for how we expected to act. These are the things that we have assented, so that we can have freedom as Americans. One of biggest things, if not the biggest thing, that we assented to is the U.S. constitution, which gives us our freedoms, which gives us the freedom that we believe every single human being should have. The U.S. constitution is one the the greatest and most important documents that has ever been signed and assented to in the history of the United States of America.
