Should Religion Be Taught In America

We live in a different time now with lightning fast internet and with social media anyone can instantly know what is going on around us, so it is easy for some Americans to get offended. The question on many minds is do the offended have a right to complain where religion is concerned. Many Americans feel the need to complain about Christians declaring one’s beliefs, and speaking to the public about them. Others complain about traditional religious holidays such as Christmas. As a Christian one is taught to be forgiving, but the religious teachings may give non-Christians more fuel for their complaints. Why should anyone have to sensor themselves when talking about Christ and what the Bible teaches? We as Americans have the right to free speech and the right to practice the religion of ones choosing. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the man who founded Christianity. Some Americans are offended when they see the words Merry Christmas, or when religious music is played during parades. There are countless posts on the web about how offensive it is to impose Christianity on the public by using Merry Christmas on signs, in songs and in schools. Instead of giving every American the freedom of speech and religion, America has followed popular culture by using the phrases Merry Xmas or Seasons Greetings. Christians simply want to celebrate a birthday and if the public does not like to celebrate Christmas alongside the Christians they can simply not participate. Let us think for a moment about how it would feel on your birthday if no one could say, “Happy Birthday” Steve, Sally, or whatever name you place behind it.
