The process of describing a piece of art through an analytical context requires that you focus on one aspect of the piece at a time. These categories from which you can describe the piece of art are line, shape, color, texture, and composition. The piece figure of a woman from around 3500 BCE can be presented and taken apart piece by piece to show it to the reader.
First is the use of line within the piece. The figure is that of a woman who is relatively thin but has large curving hips that are spit down the middle by a dark line that emphasis her legs which gently curve toward the knees. The color of the piece is that of raw earth. Unpainted and worn terra-cotta give the piece a naturalistic look. Due to what appears to be weathering the shaper edges of the figure are a lighter shade of brown, specifically on the shoulders where the arms would be and the top of the figures head around the lip of the depression.
Although the piece is behind glass and you cannot touch the piece, you get a feel of the texture. It seems to have a smoothness to it, but at the same time some sections of the piece have an earthy coarseness to them, like dried mud.
