Yo Mama’s Last Supper by Cox portrays a naked black woman in the middle, surrounded by twelve men sitting around the table, six men on each side. She is not wearing any sort of garments except for a simple white cloth around her arms that are spread out. This art piece consists of five photographs each with three-men group; thus, the seeming division based upon similar actions is created. The man immediate right to the woman is the only man with paler skin color. On the table, there are a feast of fruits, vegetables, bread, and drinks. There are curtains in each background with a symbol in two of them.
Now, I must conduct a concextualization in this analysis. This art piece has become well known as one of the most provocative art pieces in the contemporary world. The reason why the public considers this art as provocative is because Cox is demonstrating her

It shows that this character is intended to be different from others. By the positioning and the skin color of the actor, I believe Cox is attempting to portray him as Judas, the traitor. All of those actors at the table have darker skin complexion compared to this man, which is reversed to how Judas is portrayed in Da Vinci’s Last Supper; Leonardo depicts Judas significantly darker than rest of the men at the table.
Whilst, the “bushman” literally describes things in terms of what he sees, I on the other hand, are able to conduct further assumptions and interpretations during my observation with my prior-knowledge. In this art piece, I believe Cox is attempting to protest the misrepresented points in the portrayal of religious figures in common religious murals. Additionally, while the body and figure of Jesus is turned into subject via absence, that of Cox is now the main subject via presence. She is utilizing her body as the expressive instrument in this piece, which she modifies to the innovative and critical
